it be great if you could get your kids to eat wholesome, nutritious and healthy food … without feeling like you are force-feeding them?
To see them eating the sort of food that you know is good for them instead of the salty, sugary, processed rubbish that TV ads and their peer groups have taught them that they want?
Wouldn’t it just be wonderful to know that you are giving your kids a healthy, balanced diet and see them start to really enjoy ‘real’ food?
If you could do that, do you think you might learn to enjoy mealtimes more than you do now?
Hi, my name is Emily Gordon. I’m the founder of Café Des Enfants (www.cafedesenfants.co.uk), an online resource which helps parents give their children a healthy diet without causing World War Three in the kitchen.
I know exactly where you’re coming from, because a while back it was just like that for me too!
Do you find yourself:
Cooking three or four different dishes every mealtime just to keep everyone happy?
Always forking out loads of cash for ‘specially for kids’ meals (that they don’t even eat!) and wondering why they can’t enjoy the same foods you do?
Frustrated in your attempts to feed your children healthy, natural and nutritious food, when all they want is ghastly synthetic stuff like cheese strings, fruit winders and, God forbid, turkey twizzlers?
Wondering why Big Macs or chicken nuggets are ‘cool’, whereas tomatoes, salmon and vegetables are not?
Fretting over what to make to keep everyone else happy and then subsequently not enjoying it yourself?
Dreading eating out?
Finding yourselves eating meals in different ‘shifts’ and wondering how ‘other families’ manage to enjoy a meal together?
That’s exactly what used to happen in our house. I couldn’t bear it. Everyone wanting something different every mealtime and all the effort I’d put into making a nice meal for all of us to enjoy just to watch my kids pretending to retch when it was put in front of them.
I Just Wanted My Kids to Enjoy the Food I Made, So That I Could
Enjoy Mealtimes Again Too!
I think I’m no different from most responsible parents. I wanted my children to eat healthily, try lots of different foods and really learn to enjoy eating. I certainly didn’t want to be a control freak and didn’t want my kids to grow up having never enjoyed the odd Haribo or junk food take away from McDonalds or Pizza Hut.
I didn’t want to come across as some awful draconian dinner lady either, forcing my children to eat things they didn’t want. Nor could I cope with a life obsessing about calories, food combining or whipping my calculator out every time I have a recipe idea. I wanted an approach to eating which was simple, could involve foods which are freely available anywhere and which would be fun for all involved.
What I did want is for my children to enjoy a healthy BALANCED diet and be willing to try new things and for us as a family to enjoy eating the same stuff! I wanted them to become interested in food, understanding what is good for them, and to be actively involved in shopping for and preparing it.
In short, I wanted healthy food to be a part of our lives, rather than life itself.
“These days we enjoy many meals together as a family
thanks to your tips.”
Caroline Prickett Toronto, Canada
So, in these days when animal experimentation is a strict no-no, I decided to experiment on my children......
I Gave Myself Just 14 Days – To Turn it all Completely Around – To Change My Kids’ Attitudes To Food
I set myself the task of turning my children into healthy – and by this I mean balanced, open, interested, experimental and fun – eaters in just 14 days.
No pressure then!
Preparing for this challenge, I read dozens of books and discovered some incredible things about food, kids and eating habits. I also got to talk to a lot of very clever and highly qualified nutritionists and get the scoop on the latest scientific discoveries about kids’ nutrition. I learned how to prepare some amazing dishes quickly, easily and using freely-available, fresh and healthy ingredients.
I found out a lot about cooking and the nutritional value of food, but even more importantly, I learned about my children – why they felt that their needs were different to mine, why they seemed to have so many issues about certain types of food and how to get them to really enjoy eating healthily, trying new things and helping out at mealtimes.
The changes I noticed in my children within 14 days of starting this programme and have been seeing ever since have been nothing short of incredible.
Now, I have kids who actively look forward to sharing meals with us, love to help out in the kitchen, really enjoy trying something new and are a real pleasure to have at the dinner table, whether we’re eating together as a family at home or treating ourselves to meal out.
“Our children now eat, cabbage, spinach, eggs AND chicken! I am ticking them off my
list as we go through the 14 days. I am delighted … thank you!”
Michelle Sinclair Surrey, UK
If I Can Do It, Anyone Can!
Let me be honest here. I’m not a Stepford Wife, Super Mum or Domestic Goddess. When it comes to cooking, I’m more like Big Cook, Little Cook than Angela Hartnett!
So, I figured that if I could do it, anyone could! And because I knew that the stress and guilt I always associated with feeding my children were not unique to me, I started sharing my findings with family and friends.
The results were better than I could possibly have wished for. They too, found themselves looking forward to mealtimes that all the family could enjoy.
“We just love your recipes. I’ve managed to add a whole new range to my repertoire.”
Tina Johnson , Hackney London
Now, What Was the Most Stressful Part of the Day Is the Bit I Enjoy
the Most!
Ask any one of those mums who followed my program what their most stressful part of the day was a while back and every single one of them would have said mealtimes. Getting the kids to school and making sure they did their homework on time was a walk in the park in comparison.
Now, however, they say that mealtimes are the time of day they enjoy most. Sharing a good, nutritious meal with happy children is now something they do on a regular basis and the lives of every family member have benefited as a result.
They send their kids off to school knowing that they will enjoy a wonderfully healthy packed lunch that will keep their bodies active and minds alert throughout the whole day.
And, when they dine out together, they see their kids willing to try and really enjoying, dishes they would have turned their noses up at before.
“The children really do love helping in the kitchen – it’s something I hadn’t considered before.”
Margaret Tucker, North London
As more and more of my friends discovered the techniques I used to change my kids’ attitudes about food, they wanted something they could show their friends. Increasingly, I was being encouraged to write down exactly what I did during that 14 day experiment to change our lives around..
So I did … and the result is my guide How to Get Your Kids to Eat Healthily in 14 Days or Less.
Your Kids Will Want to Eat Healthy Food … and Will Love You for Giving it to Them!
This guide is the exact same program I used to ‘stealth bomb’ my children’s’ attitudes to food and healthy eating, based on many weeks of research and experimentation.
It highlights some of the amazing facts I discovered about kids’ nutrition, such as …
The super-fruit which prevents cancer, gives your kids all the nutrients they need to grow strong and healthy and which is so versatile they’ll love it for breakfast, lunch and dinner … and so will you!
Why, if you buy this fruit the way it is sold in most supermarkets, you’ll be short-changing yourself
How to give your kids delicious, wholesome ‘adult’ food…without having to cut it up into silly shapes! ‘Slime Juice’, anyone?
The wonderful and very ‘grown up’ sauce, usually served with pasta, which kids LOVE and does them the world of good … and how to ‘sneak’ in extra goodness without them even noticing!
How to get your kids to eat the highest quality protein their bodies need to ensure healthy growth. Dozens of recipes so delicious, your child will never tire of eating them.
And, what your children really think about mealtimes and eating, which may really shock you!
Why children don’t want to eat at the same time as you.
What foods are ‘cool’ and what are not .. and why.
Why you needn't worry if your kids are getting down from the table.
Why your kids are so hung up about food and what to do about it!
“I hadn’t realised how beneficial some foods are … and we’ll NEVER have margarine in
the house again. I’ve found the nutritional guidelines really useful.”
Amanda Donovan, Melbourne Australia
But How to Get Your Kids to Eat Healthily in 14 Days or Less is not an academic treatise, diet (heaven forbid!), or recipe book.
It’s just one mum (that’s me!) telling another (you or dad, I hope!) how I managed to change my kid’s eating habits and make mealtimes something to to rather than something to be dreaded.
Here’s what you’ll find in How to Get Your Kids to Eat Healthily in 14 Days or Less:
A straight down the line, ‘no nonsense’ plan to get win your kids over from the food/eating ‘dark side’!
Tasty and simple recipes for you and your kids to enjoy together at all times of the day. (for breakfast, lunch and dinner) You don’t have to be a chef or domestic goddess to cook any of these.
Over 100 real recipes, tried and tested on real children!
Hundreds of handy tips for cooking and getting your kids to help – when and if you want them to.
Dozens of ways to encourage your kids to eat more healthily, without you getting too stressed or hung up about it.
A proven way to turn your kids’ attitudes about food around in just a few days And turn them into healthy, balanced eaters
In short, this is the guide I wished I had a few months ago – it would have saved me endless amounts of grief. I’ve read dozens of books about children’s nutrition, but they all seemed to fall into one of two categories:
Dry, technical books which, while doubtless meticulously researched, made feeding my children seem like some sort of clinical procedure, instead of a fun time for all. Food should be fun!
Books by new-agey-type ‘super mums’ which were condescending, impractical and unrealistic. Books about women who work 20 hours per day and still manage to make highly complex macro-biotic meals their kids wolf down in between pilates and yoga sessions. Reading these just used to get on my nerves and make me feel inadequate!
I’ve been urged by a few of my friends to seek a mainstream publisher for How to Get Your Kids to Eat Healthily in 14 Days or Less, but so far I have resisted because I don’t want its message to be diluted. I’ve learned that a lot of cook books are subject to such stringent editing by publishers scared of upsetting the medical profession or food industry giants that they become bland, anaemic versions of what they were intended to be.
Real Ideas, Tested on Real Kids by a Real Mum!
I don’t want this guide to go the same way! How to Get Your Kids to Eat Healthily in 14 Days or Less is a real ‘live from the kitchen!’ look at changing your kids’ attitudes to food by a real mum who has actually done it. And that’s its power.
Maybe we will find a mainstream publisher prepared to take it on without editing the content, but until that day we want to retain control. So, for the time being at least, it will only be available directly from Café Des Enfants.
It sounds like an exaggeration, but changing my kid’s eating habits has changed my life. I no longer get all stressed about mealtimes or feel guilty about not giving my children the ‘right’ foods. Which means that when they sometimes don’t eat a meal or gorge on crisps and ice-cream at a picnic I remain calm and stress free confident in the knowledge that my children enjoy a balanced diet overall and so can enjoy ad hoc and crazy eating habits now and again!
My children, husband and I now all enjoy delicious meals together inside and outside the house and the relationships between all of us are so much better as a result. This has had such a positive impact on us as a family that I would like your family to benefit from my discoveries too.
“This book is FANTASTIC! It’s changed everything here. Thank you Emily.”
Henny Ingthorn, Manhatten, USA
